Sample Program Description:
AGING:
Shaping a New Tradition
Facilitated by Rosa Mazone
The “aging of America”--the growing percentage of our
population 65 and older--is a trend of undeniable consequence. While advances in medical knowledge and
technology have increased our longevity, our culture’s view of old age and
elders remains. We unthinkingly accept
the images of aging propagated by our culture, seeding our bodies and minds
with the expectation of sliding into a weak and socially useless old age.
In this program we will explore myths and stereotypes
about aging, debunk their meaning, and recognize their uselessness in present
time. We also will unearth the source of
our negative images and allow a new vision of maturity and longevity to
emerge. We can overcome the limiting
beliefs that fill old age and needless suffering and negativity.
Since old age is a time of fulfillment, a rich and most
valuable time, we come to see ourselves as vital and meaningful. By learning to abandon old ways of thought
and perception, we acknowledge and honor our role as wisdom keepers of the
valuable past and guides to the future.
