Anne Neal

Over the many years of being a part of the Zoe Training & Consulting team, one of my job perks has been the benefit of personally working with some of our trainers and consultants. Anne Neal is one of them. Having spent many hours of one-on-one time in interactive personal development sessions with Anne, I feel qualified to say she has an undeniable natural ability to define the heart of any challenge or goal, illuminate and fine-tune a person's path to realizing their highest objectives, and to help them recognize and develop their own unique gifts and potential to provide valuable contributions to those around them. In working with groups, Anne has a gift for presenting transformational tools in a way that bridges the gap between the old way and a new way. 

Anne happily agreed to answer some of our interview questions that help us better understand her training and coaching background and style of assisting others. 

What's your favorite topic(s) to present on? Why?  

Helping organizations and individuals shift internal images that govern behavior and values. The human brain stores vast amounts of information in the subconscious mind by forming images.  These images are the drivers of human behavior.  Whether limiting or empowering images dictate the results we achieve, regardless of our desired outcomes.  Change the images, change the results.  I like to address this important concept because it has the power to help people make the greatest and most positive improvements.

3 words that describe your presentation style:  

Friendly, Calm, Authentic

What are your favorite groups of people to work with?  

I like working with groups who have a vision and want to create and implement sustainable plans to reach their goals.  People who want to use teamwork as an avenue for achievement.  Highly intelligent people with critical thinking skills who want/need to increase their people skills.  Groups that realize they’re stuck and want to release their potential with open, honest communication.

Why did you become a speaker/trainer/facilitator/coach?  

My first career choice was to become a teacher.  My second career choice was to become a psychologist.  However, the academic route wasn’t a good fit for me as I’m a kinesthetic learner (I learn by doing).  I started by teaching real estate pre-licensing courses.  I loved the transformation of beginning a class with a bunch of strangers as students and ending up with friends.  I loved it when my students passed their licensing exams.  This love motivated me to continue working with groups to help them achieve their goals.  

Being a coach is not the same thing as being a counselor.  I learned how to be an effective coach by providing pro-bono services while taking interactive courses.  This approach was a good fit for my “can-do” attitude.  I can help healthy successful people move to higher places in their lives, careers, and organizations by being a good listener and asking the right questions.  I can help them shift their internal limiting images without delving into the areas a psychologist is trained to address.    

Do you have a favorite quote? What/why?  

“Coming to a bend in the road is not a problem, unless you fail to make the turn.”  Unknown origin.  I like this quote because it speaks to challenges we all face.  If we fail to respond appropriately or in time, we end up with even more problems.  Keys to successful living are:  Becoming aware that a new direction lies ahead, being open to the changing conditions, and taking the appropriate action to regain balance, speed, and agility on a new course.

Tell us a recent book you've read and would recommend: 

The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg.  This book teaches us how and why we form habits and how the human brain uses habits to reach certain rewards.  It also explains how to change habits by changing our automatic behaviors and routines.  The principles in this book can be applied to individuals and organizations.

What are you most grateful for in life?  

My health.  Without health I can’t accomplish my goals and leave my legacy.  Even though I still eat dessert too often, I’m an avid believer that we can do a lot of good things to help ourselves be healthy.  And then, sometimes we’re faced with an unexpected health challenge.  That’s when a healthy attitude becomes most critical.  Mental and emotional health hold the balance for physical health.   I’m grateful for all of it.
