Susana Escalante, MA, ABD, is an award-winning senior executive human resources manager/director with 20+ years of progressive experience with best-in-class companies such as Raytheon Company, Seagate Technology Storagetek (now Oracle), and Hewlett-Packard.

Susana’s most recent position, Director of Diversity and Inclusion for Raytheon Space Airborne Systems (SAS), encompassed working with the Business President and the SAS Executive Diversity Council to design, execute, and oversee the annual SAS D&I global strategy to support business success. RTN has over 60,000 employees worldwide and SAS has over 12,000 employees across US, Canada, and overseas. Susana reported to the SAS VP of Human Resources and the Chief Diversity Officer for Raytheon.

In her role at Raytheon SAS, Susana's responsibilities included the following:

  • Develop, execute, and oversee SAS annual global diversity and inclusion strategy, initiatives, and budget
  • Integrate D&I into the fabric of the business to support business growth; strategic focus areas included: engage and develop diversity competent leaders; build an inclusive and engaging organizational culture; promote diversity competency through engaging, fun and educational opportunities/experiences; implement high-impact efforts to ensure success of women/diverse talent as well as leveraging, growing nine Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) across US and globally
  • Lead the SAS Office of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), the SAS Executive Diversity Council, US site diversity teams, 9 employee resource groups, and oversee site D&I engagement
  • Serve on an RTN Enterprise D&I team of Directors reporting into the RTN Chief Diversity Officer to support and lead RTN D&I strategy and initiatives
  • Develop and implement D&I curriculum for classroom, webinar, and online, including Bias Training, Group Identity, Accumulation/Tracking, Resolving Diversity Related Conflict, Generational Differences, Women, Intentional Career Development, Leadership Development, and more
  • Design, organize, and deliver 10 CEO award-winning Regional Diversity Summits held in 2009 across Raytheon reaching 2,500 employees
  • Promote D&I, cross-cultural competency, and a culture that attracts and retains world-class talent
  • Lead RTN’s participation in recruitment/retention efforts including national conferences such as Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHPE), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA), etc.
  • Apply Six Sigma methodology to create levers for change and sustainable success drivers 
  • Results included providing D&I training to reach over 2,500 employees, Bias Training to reach over 600 managers, increase representation year over year for women and minorities in leadership positions, positive leader engagement serving as sponsors for ERGs, participating in National Diversity Conferences, presenting at D&I events, serving as mentors/sponsors, and leading strategic D&I initiatives

Susana's clients have included Fortune Top Companies, Federal, State and City organizations as well as nonprofit agencies to include Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Ball Aerospace, AVAYA, Lucent Technology; Hughes Corporation, Ball Aerospace, Great West, INTRADO; USDA-Forest Service; US Department of Commerce; Bureau of Land Management; National Park Service; National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration (NOAA-NIST); Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), City of Denver (including the City of Denver Fire Department and Denver Water Department), Cities of Boulder, Fort Collins, Longmont, Montrose, and Thornton, Colorado, Boulder County as well as the Bureau of Reclamation, Internal Revenue Service, Denver Children's Hospital; Kindred Atlanta Hospital; and others.

Susana has won the following awards: Raytheon CEO Award Winner, 2010; 1997 recipient of the Boulder County award for her work in diversity and business; the Adelante Mujer State Award (1998) for community involvement; and the 1999 Award presented by Career Communications (Black and Hispanic Engineer Publication) for her work in Diversity/Affirmative Action. In addition, during her employment as Senior Human Resources Manager at Seagate, the company was named one of the top 50 companies for diversity in Diversity Inc. in 2002 and 2004.

Susana is Six Sigma Certified as well as certified to conduct Cultural Navigator Training.

Susana is a member of SHRM, served on a Conference Board Diversity Council, and has presented at National Conferences to include the National Women of Color, BEYA, The Conference Board, and others.
